Artist Statement
We all see the same thing in different ways; my artwork focuses on the neglected and hidden beauty. Observing the hidden beauty of plants -- their colors, shapes and forms -- always fascinates me. There is a small world just below our feet, which has a drama for us to observe. The closer I get to the nature, the more interesting I feel it is! This insignificant beauty always inspires me, which brings up a symbolic representation of our human values in all walks of life. In other words, ”Neglect versus Attention” forms the underlying theme of my works. It is my thought that the value system in a person at a given point in time is determined by factors such as his/her background, past experiences, faith, beliefs, degree of awareness to the current environment, and other people. The value system can also reveal both the pleasant and unpleasant sides of human behaviors. Within our assessment of value systems, we are often understandably concerned with not only whether something is good or bad but also how good or bad it is per our acceptance. The existence of such divergent tensions is embedded in my works to let viewers find out and appreciate over time, leading to a healing effect of some kind.
